Gannawarra Shire Council Takes Out National Award
The Gannawarra Shire Council has been recognised nationally amongst its peers, after winning in the Arts Animates - Excellence in building vibrant and resilient communities category at the 2018 National Awards for Local Government.
The award acknowledged the Council's innovative approach to creating an performing arts program for the community, and the partnerships that were established in doing so.
After winning their category at the National Awards for Local Government, the Gannawarra Shire Council is now in the running to win the National Award for Excellence, which will be announced on June 19.
Gannawarra Shire Council Mayor Brian Gibson says it's an exciting time for all involved.
"What a great achievement by our arts and culture team, and the community as well; it's the community that's really taken it forward," Gibson said.
Gibson however credited the accolade to the great work of Arts and Culture Officer Kirsty Orr, who was one of the main drivers.
“Kirsty has worked closely with individuals and community groups to select theatre productions to show at local venues and to build confidence around hosting high quality events."
