Nyah West Fire Controlled
A large grass fire is under control in Nyah West after burning approximately 400 hectares.
Emergency services arrived at 8pm, with up to 40 appliances on scene to contain the fire at its worst. The fire was controlled within two hours, preventing further damage to be done ahead of dangerous conditions this afternoon in the Mallee region.
Fallen trees had forced the closure of Chinkapook and Nyah West Road between Nyrraby and Templeton Roads overnight, however the public is now able to drive through the area. Drivers however are being advised to expect delays and to adhere to the changed traffic conditions between Templeton Road and Watson Road as works begin to remove hazardous trees.
An Advice notice is still in place as everyone is being urged to remain alert to the conditions.
The fire last night coincided with the CFA yesterday declaring a total fire ban for the Mallee region, again showing the frightening dangers of the summer as temperatures remain high.
