Sawn Hill Police warn drivers to slow down

Swan Hill Police are reminding drivers to slow down to 40km/h when passing a emergency vehicle.

According to Victoria Roads, drivers must slow down to a speed that would enable them to stop safely when approaching and passing enforcement, emergency, or escort vehicles that are stationary or moving slowly.

Acting Inspector of Swan Hill Polce Brad Bennett says that the law is in place for the safety of everyone involved.

Walsh encourages volunteers to apply for land care grants

Member for Murray Plains Peter Walsh is encouraging Mallee volunteers helping to protect and restore Victoria’s land and environment to consider applying for funding under the latest round of Victorian Landcare Grants.

Environmental volunteer groups can apply for project grants of up to $20,000 for on-ground works, education and capacity building projects that help to improve Victoria’s environment.

Support grants of $500 are also available for new and existing groups and networks to assist with operating costs and provide stability.

A total of $1.75 million in grants will be delivered through Victoria’s ten catchment management authorities.

Applications close 5:00pm Wednesday 12 June 2019.

Healthy River and Water Forum

A Healthy Rivers and Water Forum will be hosted by the Swan Hill Club today, giving Mallee candidates a chance to respond to the issue and present prospective policies.

Local Greens candidate Nicole Rowan and Citizens Electoral Council candidate Chris Lahy have been confirmed with three independent candidates, Jason Modica, Cecilia Moar and Ray Kingston in attendance.

Some of the topics that will be discussed include, water reform and trade, the Murray Darling Basin plan, irrigated agriculture and the local economy.

Organiser Peta Thornton says that the intention is to promote "open, honest and informed debate about the issues."

John Williamson Butcherbird Tour

Australian artist John Williamson will play at the Swan Hill Town Hall tonight as part of his Butcherbird Tour.

Celebrating the release of his 52nd album, the Kerang-born musician and ARIA Hall of Fame inductee will look to provide a mixture of his new material, along with his old classics.

Golden River Football League preview

Heading into Round 5 of the Golden Rivers Football League, Nullawil will take on Moulamein on Saturday.

Nullawil is coming off of a 105 to 50 win over Murrabit last week and currently sits at third on the ladder with a 3-1 record.

On the other side, Moulamein had their own 112 to 63 win over Quambatook and sit seventh on the ladder. With a win either team could start making a concerted push towards finals football.

In other fixtures, Macorna and Wandella will face off, Quambatook will take on Hay and Ultima will try to maintain top spot over Murrabit.
