Reports have alleged that the $440 million project's funding has been exhausted and Stage 3 of the project will be put on hold up until further funding can be obtained.

Mr Walsh stated that if Minister Allan can not deliver the project someone else should be put in charge stating: "If Minister Allan is not capable of actually delivering this project, I'd like to see the Premier put a minister in charge who will deliver the project."

"The Andrews Government is finding literally billions of dollars for cost overruns on their level crossing removal projects in Melbourne. They need to make the budget allocation, so that there is an upgraded and standardised rail system for north-west and western Victoria."

"As the Minister responsible for this project, the buck stops with Jacinta Allan. If she won’t take responsibility, she must immediately hand the Basin Rail Project over to a Minister who can fix her mess."

The Murray Basin Rail Project is intended to deliver upgrades to Victoria’s rail freight network to meet the increasing demand for freight services. Intending to increase economic growth, create jobs and providing a major boost to the transport industry, agricultural sector and regional communities.
