The July 24th meet was moved due to COVID-19

The Mildura Cup has been shifted to Swan Hill in the wake of COVID-19.

The carnival is usually held over two days in July, but it was previously announced it would be cut to a one-day card.

In a statement, Racing Victoria says it was shifted to Swan Hill “in order to reduce the travel required by participants and officials”.

Swan Hill Jockey Club CEO Aaron Garvey says the decision was made it announce it early so people could plan ahead.

"Depending on how long they were going to go for, Mildura wasn't going to race over that time and it looks at this point that the meeting in July is going to be affected by that," says Garvey.

"So, the decision was made early to announce it to the industry so that people can start to plan ahead in the next couple of months."

According to Garvey, it shouldn't have much of an impact for the club;

"It's business as usual for Swan Hill, we've made some slight adjustments to our track preparations, but we've done that in conjunction with the industry."

The meet is scheduled for July 24th.
