McCallum Street To Be Changed To Prevent Further Crashes
A major redesigning of a high incident zone on Swan Hill roads has been the latest focus of the Swan Hill Rural City Council, with McCallum Street set to be addressed.
VicRoads has approved funding for the new redevelopment, which will see the two carparks in the centre of McCallum Street joined to remove the Splatt Street intersection and create more parking for locals.
The section of McCallum Street between High and Splatt Streets will also be narrowed to one lane, with a roundabout to be installed at the High street intersection.
Swan Hill Rural City Council’s Director of Infrastructure Svetla Petkova says the prior accidents on the road drove the decision.
“The priority was to make this section of road safer for our community - and that’s what this design does,” Petkova said.
“And to make sure our community is fully informed, we’re holding an information session that will outline all the proposed changes in full detail.”
The Council will be guiding locals through the changes at the Town Hall on Wednesday May 23, starting at 5:30pm.
