Council gets approval for Stage 2 of the Drought Communities Program

An additional $1 million dollars is going to the Gannawarra Shire Council as part of the Federal Government's Drought Communities Program.

During 2020, council expects to roll out a number of initiatives, activities, events and infrastructure projects.

A further 22 projects and 9 events are set to benefit as a result of the additional funding.

Council was eligible to apply for $2 million in funding after the Federal Government classified Gannawarra Shire as a drought-declared municipality in September 2019.

Council announced in December 2019 the list of projects that would be supported by $1 million of funding, known as Stage 1, with these projects to be completed by 30 June 2020.

An announcement of projects that will be supported by a further $1 million of funding, known as Stage 2, was made in May 2020, with these projects needing to be completed by 31 December 2020.

COHUNA

. Installation of 15-amp power outlets at various locations for food vendors and events

KERANG

. Permanent dance floor/games space at Atkinson Park
. Installation of 15-amp power outlets throughout Atkinson Park
. Purchase of kayak launching facilities and fishing platforms

KOONDROOK

. Koondrook RSL clubrooms accessibility improvements
. Koondrook Recreation Reserve Pavilion upgrade

LAKE CHARM

. Lake Charm Hall roof and spouting renewal works
. Installation of shade sails over exercise pod

LAKE MERAN

. Toilet upgrades

LALBERT

. Installation of solar panels on Lalbert Community Complex roof
. Lalbert Cemetery grave identification signage

LEITCHVILLE

. Leitchville Swimming Pool lighting improvements
. Installation of historical plaques throughout Leitchville
. Powered sites at RV Park

MURRABIT

. Installation of solar panels at Murrabit Market Office
