Riverside Park visit to see path and lighting upgrades

Member for Northern Victoria, Mark Gepp visited Swan Hill yesterday to see the newly completed lighting and concrete path improvements at Riverside Park.

Funded through a $229,229 grant through the Andrews Labor Government’s Community Crime Prevention Program, the Swan Hill Riverfront Precinct upgrade includes 35 new lighting structures and 300 metres of new concrete paths to improve feelings of safety and encourage more residents to visit at night.

The new lighting and concrete path upgrades are located at:
- Riverside Park
- Monash Drive
- Yamagata Garden

Gepp says smaller projects such as this can make a big difference.

“Thanks to this grant, our Swan Hill community can enjoy a safer and more connected Riverfront.

"It's very important to us that local amenities are safe for the local community and these upgrades, not very expensive in the overall scheme of things, but they're so important.

Swan Hill Rural City Council Mayor Bill Moar, who was also in attendance was pleased in being able to unveil the upgrades in time for the school holidays.

"We have more sunshine here than in the Gold Coast. It's absolutely chock-a-block here with people and kids and families enjoying themselves."

Both Gepp and Moar say discussions around further funding for the municipality have been positive.

"Absolutely, we continue to advance our needs here in the municipality," says Moar.

"We've got a terrific relationship with the council. Bill and I work closely together. There's lots of things the council want to do. We'll be sitting down, we'll be talking about a lot of things," says Gepp.
